Trade Data for August vs. July:
Exports up 68% - 3rd highest amount of exports this calendar year. See chart here.
Imports up 8% - highest for the year, exceeding the previous high by almost US$50mln. See chart here.
Trade Balance - improved by just under 4%, still the second worst trade imbalance for the calendar year (only July was worse). See chart here.

The Global Corruption Perception Index (CPI) rankings were issued by Transparency International on December 5, 2012. See where Jamaica and all the other 181 countries fall on the grid.
- Jamaican Dollar Continues to Slide Losing 0.9% in November. See chart here.
- Net Remittances down 8% in September. Net Remittances for the year are also slightly below the period January to September 2011. See chart here.
- Jamaica Stock Exchange Index was flat for the month of November, but down 6% versus November 2011. See chart here.
- Jamaica Stock Exchange Junior Index lost 5% during November and has lost 16% since November 2011. See chart here.

Public Debt Management Bill: Under the Debt Management Bill, the Minister of Finance is mandated to impose ceilings on government guarantees. The bill states that the minister must exercise prudent management of public debt. Flip though the bill here.
Gas Prices: Prices from Petrojam for 87, 90 and Diesel were all down by 1.5% to 2.3% at the end of November as compared to the end of October. However, prices have still risen between 4% and 7% as compared to 2011. See chart here.
Tourism Data: Data for August from the Jamaica Tourist Board shows that Long-Stay Arrivals were down 25% from July. However, this is slightly misleading as August's arrivals are not much different than 2011 or 2010 showing a historical trend of dipping from July levels. Cruise Ship arrivals continue to be very strong in comparison to flat long-stay visitor arrivals. Data has not yet been disaggregated but anecdotal information leads diGJamaica to estimate that the addition of Falmouth to the lineup of cruise ship ports has been a strong net positive for Jamaica. Winter tourist data (September 2012 to December 2012 has yet to come in though) will ultimately determine how true this statement is. Total visitor arrivals is up 13% from 2011 through August. See the disaggregation in the link below and determine for yourself which part of the industry is growing faster. See chart here.
