In rounding out the Winter Tourist Season, the overall total number of visitors to the Island in April, as well as per category: long stay visitors and cruise ship visitors declined significantly.
For April, total number of arrivals from both sources (long stay arrivals and cruise ship arrivals) declined by 24%, with 272,891 compared to 361,131 in March. The overall total number of visitors has decreased by 8% and 3% when compared to the corresponding period in 2012 and 2011 respectively.
Longstay arrivals in April was 171,630, a decline of 19% from the 213,109 in March and a 5% decline when compared to the 180,511 in April 2012.
The total number of cruise ship arrivals in April was 101,261, which represents a 32% decline from the 148,022 in March and a 12% decline when compared to the corresponding period in 2012.
‘According to Tourism Minister Dr. Wykeham McNeill, the sector is in a state of transition. According to the Minister, economic conditions in markets such as the US, North America and the UK, have substantially affected the sector’s performance.’
