Sunday marks the start of February, which is celebrated in Jamaica as Reggae Month. Last year, we brought you profiles, playlists, interviews and more, and we’re kicking it up a notch this year with our Interactive Reggae Month Special. In addition to those features, we’ll be looking at the history and future of Jamaican music, reggae’s global impact, raiding the Gleaner Archives to bring you interesting stories and pictures from ‘way back when,’ predicting artistes who can and should ‘buss’ on the international scene, celebrating Bob Marley’s milestone 70th birthday and more, including giveaways! Valentine’s Day is in the middle of the month and we have something very romantic coming up for that as well.
We kick off the festivities on Sunday by featuring the Crown Prince of Reggae, Dennis Brown, on what would have been his 58th birthday.
February is also Black History Month, and we will be revisiting our popular Famous Faces, Jamaican Roots post from last year, as well as expanding the list. We’ll also be looking more closely at one famous face with Jamaican roots, California Attorney General Kamala Harris, as she makes a run for a seat in the US Senate.
February may be the shortest month of the year, but it will certainly be exciting! Visit digjamaica.com/reggae_month for more.
