January is celebrated as Brainteaser Month. According to Wikipedia, a brain teaser is a form of puzzle that requires thought to solve. Most brain teasers are created for amusement, but they have the added benefit of boosting overall brain activity, increasing memory power, and increasing concentration. See our infographic on Benefits of Brain Teasers. Below, we have listed some of the types of brain teasers that exist:
1. Math Puzzles
Think Sudoku and general math questions that test mental ability or include an element of common sense.
2. Riddles
A statement or question or phrase having a double or veiled meaning, put forth as a puzzle to be solved (Wikipedia).
3. Visual Puzzles
You have to look at visual puzzles and solve the anomaly, or finish a sequence, etc.
4. Optical Illusions
These usually contain a hidden picture, or an interesting, difficult-to identify feature.
5. Word Puzzles
These can be word searches, or puzzles created using words, such as crosswords.
