The curtains came down on the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last night. More than eleven thousand athletes from 205 countries and two independent teams came together in a spectacular closing ceremony to celebrate the values of the Olympics – friendship, respect and excellence. The baton for the 2020 Games was officially passed to Japan, where the next Olympics will take place in Tokyo.
Jamaica reproduced its second best ever medal haul, tying the count from Beijing, China – six gold, three silver and two bronze. The country now has 78 Olympic medals in total. Take a look at the infographic below for a breakdown:
