The latest figures from the bauxite-alumina industry reveal that in December 2013 crude bauxite production went up by 11% to 460, 957 MT and alumina production rose by 9% to 169, 470 MT when compared with figures from December 2012.
Production of crude bauxite for December 2013 reflects a 39% increase over November 2013 and a mere 0.4% increase in alumina production over November’s output.
Due to the conditions of the global economy during 2013 Jamaica’s total production of crude bauxite fell by 2% to 4,688,328 tons compared to 4,770,576 tons during 2012. Total Production of alumina however increased by 6% to 1,854,910 tons over 1,757,693 tons during 2012.
During the 2013 year, production was at its highest for alumina in the month of May and for 2012 the month of March, representing a difference of 4,564 tons between the two high points. While production for alumina was at its lowest during March and June respectively for 2013 and 2012.
For crude bauxite, production vamped up to its highest point in the month of March 2013 and for 2012 May, representing a difference of 24,517 tons between the two high points On the other hand, the month with the lowest production number for crude bauxite for 2013 and 2012 is November 2013 and April 2012.
