This week’s image comes from the Friday Gleaner story entitled Golden Run By Thompson – Jamaican Hurdler Sets World Youth Record.

Jamaica mined its first gold medal at the 2013 IAAF World Youth Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine when Yanique Thompson stopped the clock at a blistering 12.40 seconds to win the Girls 100m hurdles event. The 17-year-old Holmwood Technical student became the first youth athlete to break the 13 second mark in the event, shattering the 14-year-old record of 13.08 seconds held by France’s Adrianna Lamalle.

Thompson is the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Championships Class Two winner and national junior champion in the 100m sprint hurdles.
