This week’s image comes from the Thursday Gleaner story DAY OF HORROR – Four Students Perish In Crash. The photo shows Holmwood Technical High School students and a teacher comforting each other after the deaths of their schoolmates, who were killed in a three-vehicle accident on Tuesday morning. Classes were suspended on Wednesday and Thursday as the school struggled to come to grips with this latest tragedy. Earlier this year, 18 students were injured when a mini-bus they were travelling in overturned at the foot of Shooter’s Hill in Manchester, one of several similar scenarios the school has faced.
Following this week’s accident, Garnett Roper, chairman of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), said he will be reporting to Transport Minister Dr Omar Davies in a few days with proposals for the implementation of a rural school bus system.
