It’s Travel Tuesday, but we’re staying put in the city of Kingston this week. The cultural Mecca of the island is alive with the sounds of sweet reggae music from December 1-7, as the RJR Group’s Kingston Music Week gets into full gear. This ‘celebration of live music’ will take place all across the Kingston Metropolitan Area, from Plaza Jams at Boulevard Supercentre and Springs Plaza, to Behind the Screen at Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records, to Wickie Wackie Live in Bull Bay, St Thomas.
A number of local artistes will be performing over the seven days, which includes a special presentation by the Jamaica Association of Vintage Artistes and Affiliates (JAVAA), celebrating legends such as Fab 5, Lloyd Lovindeer, Boris Gardiner and Gem Myers. The venerable Jamaican Folk Singers will also have a special hour-long showcase at the Devon House Bakery and, of course, today’s current crop of hitmakers like Romain Virgo, Tifa, Agent Sasco, Wayne Marshall and Chronixx will also be playing for your entertainment.
With such a diverse number of acts and venues, there is sure to be something for everyone in the lineup. Many of the shows also offer free entry, so Kingstonians and visitors alike can overindulge in the musical feast.
