Chess is played in Jamaica under the auspices of the the Jamaica Chess Federation.
The federation was founded in 1969 by Enos Grant and has been affiliated to World Chess Federation (FIDE), the international body that governs chess, since 1972.
The main function of the Jamaica Chess Federation is the organization of tournaments, contests, seminars, workshops, and training sessions. A complete list of these can be found on their website (www.chessjamaica.org)
Today there are 6 independent chess clubs in Jamaica:
- the Liguanea Chess Club,
- the Mandeville Chess Club,
- the Chess Drum,
- Chess Ninjas Dojo,
- the Middlesex Chess Network, and
- the Jamaica Ambassadors Chess Academy.
