Take a walk on the wild side and explore the exotic Black River by boat. The hour-long safari tour takes you six miles up river and back, incorporating the lower delta and the Great Morass. Your captain and tour guide will give a running commentary on both the ecology and history of the area. The Black River is home to mangrove forests, a variety of birds and American crocodiles. Many brave visitors have even reached out to pet the crocs, which the tour guides promise are ‘friendly’. Do you dare?
Reservations can be made by calling South Coast Safaris Limited or through tour representatives.
After your safari adventure, you can also take a walking tour of the historic town, which was the first in Jamaica to receive electricity and to have motorcars. It was also one of the first to have telephones.
