TGIF! We have a full plate this weekend, with live musical events for every taste.

  1. The big event this weekend is Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, at the Greenfield stadium in Falmouth, Trelawny. The festival started yesterday evening and closes in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Tonight’s show is headlined by Mariah Carey; other performers include Morgan Heritage, Richie Stephens, Arturo Tappin and the Silver Bird Steel Orchestra. Click here for ticket information.
  2. If you’re staying in Kingston and still want the live music experience, check out The Ball 2 at Red Bones Blues Cafe, 1 Argyle Road, Kingston. Performances by Downstairs, Jason Lee Worton, The Traffix, Skaibrid and Random Chaos. Admission: $500
  3. If you’re in western Jamaica on Saturday but not heading to Jazz and Blues, check out Roots Blues Reggae at Half Moon Beach, Green Island, Hanover. Terry Gillespie, Owen Brown and friends will perform. Show starts at 6PM. Admission: $1,000
  4. If you’re an art lover, the 2nd annual ArtUpDownTown exhibition will be launched on Saturday at 6PM at Studio 174’s Harbour Street base (174 Harbour Street, the corner of West Street). Admission: Free
  5. Reggae Month 2015 kicks off on Sunday, February 1, so there will be a whole slate of events for the month. Of course, diGJamaica will be sure to keep you updated. This Sunday we have:
    • the Trench Town Festival – Jammin at the Bass, at the open-air Ambassador Theatre in the community.
    • the launch of the 4th annual Institute of Jamaica GROUNATION series at the IOJ’s lecture hall on East Street. Call 922-0620-6 for more information.
    • the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association’s (JaRIA) ecumenical service at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, 36 Hope Road
    • the annual Dennis Brown Birthday Dance at 125 Orange Street. Admission: Free
    • the start of the 23rd annual Bob Marley Birthday Bash, which kicks off with a Ratafari Nyabinghi Presentation at the MX3 Lawn, One Love Drive, Negril. Show starts at 9PM. Admission: US$8 (pre-sold); US$10 (at the gate.)
