Children look forward to Christmas with only one thing in mind – gifts! The bigger the better and the more the merrier. This year, give your little ones gifts that are uniquely Jamaican or have an ‘island’ edge. We’ve come up with a quick guide to help you.
- Books – “Reading maketh a full man,” according to English philosopher, statesman, scientist, jurist, orator, essayist, and author, Francis Bacon, so give your little ones a head start with books from local authors like Olive Senior, Kellie Magnus, Jana Bent, Rebecca Tortello, A-dZiko Simba Gegele and more. We’ve got a long list for you, from our Child Month special.
- Music – Children love music, whether it’s learning to play an instrument or singing along to their favourite songs. However, there seems to be a shortage of kid-friendly hits on the radio these days, certainly from a local perspective. Help your little ones to develop an appreciation for Reggae and their culture with our special playlist.
- Toys and dolls- Give your little girl a doll she can relate to this Christmas from Beverly Robotham’s Island Dolls collection. You can also get plush toys that are great for both girls and boys. Items are available at several locations across the island, including Things Jamaican outlets, Sun Island outlets; Kingston – Craft Cottage (Village Plaza), My Jamaica (Liguanea Plaza); Mandeville – Fontana Pharmacy; Ocho Rios – souvenir shops (Taj Mahal and Sony’s Plaza houses several); Montego Bay – Souvenir World (Blue Diamond Shopping Mall), Smile Jamaica (Gloucester Avenue); Negril – Sunnyside Gift Shop. For more information or to place a special order, email Robotham at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Jamaican lace caps – Get your hands on these unique snapback caps from the popular Jamaica Olympics Facebook page. The caps feature gold lace detail and a leather with the Jamaican flag underneath. Go to www.TeamJA.org/store to place your order.
