The Jamaica Cancer Society is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, which was established in 1955 and charged with a mandate to “fight and defeat cancer in all its forms.” Through its head office in Kingston and a network of branches, St. Elizabeth and St. Ann/St. Mary, the Society offers programmes and services to the general public in keeping with our mission “to eliminate cancer as a major health problem in Jamaica.”
To provide information to the public about the prevalent cancers in men and women in Jamaica and the benefits of screening and early detection in a manner that is culturally sensitive and which will encourage them to take action.
To increase the access to screening of women, particularly those in rural and underserved communities through our mobile screening programme
To ensure that women identified with an abnormal Pap smear and suspicious malignancy after a mammogram are followed-up for treatment
To increase the number of men who access screening for prostate cancer by promoting the benefits of screening and early detection in a manner that is culturally sensitive and which will encourage them to take action.
To garner partnerships for community based screening
