The Jamaica Cancer Society is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, which was established in 1955 and charged with a mandate to “fight and defeat cancer in all its forms.” Through its head office in Kingston and a network of branches, St. Elizabeth and St. Ann/St. Mary, the Society offers programmes and services to the general public in keeping with our mission “to eliminate cancer as a major health problem in Jamaica.”

    Objectives

    • To provide information to the public about the prevalent cancers in men and women in Jamaica and the benefits of screening and early detection in a manner that is culturally sensitive and which will encourage them to take action.

    • To increase the access to screening of women, particularly those in rural and underserved communities through our mobile screening programme

    • To ensure that women identified with an abnormal Pap smear and suspicious malignancy after a mammogram are followed-up for treatment

    • To increase the number of men who access screening for prostate cancer by promoting the benefits of screening and early detection in a manner that is culturally sensitive and which will encourage them to take action.

    • To garner partnerships for community based screening
