Description
The Road Maintenance Fund (the Fund) was enacted into law in November 2002. Its primary purpose is to finance main road maintenance activities across the island. The island’s thirteen (13) Parish Councils are given the responsibility for the parochial roads and receive funding for maintenance from the two-thirds (2/3) of the motor vehicle licence fees levied by government monthly.The income of the Road Maintenance Fund is approximately J$620M annually and is derived from one-third (1/3) of the motor vehicle licence fees. The fees are collected and disbursed to the Road Maintenance Fund (as income) on a monthly basis by the Government’s Inland Revenue Department (IRD).
