Throwback Thursday: Jamaica’s Press Freedom in 1971

May 3 is observed annually as World Press Freedom Day. Fittingly, we have decided to do a throwback to a picture published in The Daily Gleaner on October 13, 1971. Pictured above is former managing director of the Gleaner Company Limited, Mr Tom Sherman, addressing a Salute-to-the-Press luncheon of the Kiwanis Club of Kingston. He spoke to issues of press freedom, among other things. Here are some snapshots of what he said:
