1. #ZOSO: Security forces got Mt Salem numbers wrong

The National Security Council has admitted that it gave the wrong figure for murders committed in Mount Salem, St. James, when it named the community as the first zone of special operations. But it says it stands by its decision to declare the community a zone. See full story on The Gleaner’s website.

2. Hurricane Irma slams Caribbean

Hurricane Irma roared into the Caribbean with record force early this morning, its 185-mph winds shaking homes and flooding buildings on a chain of small islands along a path toward Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba and a possible direct hit on South Florida. 3. Man charged in Dexter Pottinger’s murder

The police have charged a 21-year-old man for the murder of fashion designer Dexter Pottinger. He has been identified as Romario Brown, otherwise called Travis, of Rocky Valley in Stony Hill, St Andrew. On Saturday, the police confirmed that a suspect had been taken into custody in relation to the murder of the 34-year-old designer. See full story on The Gleaner’s website.

4. JUTC bus attacked

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is still being plagued by frequent attacks on its buses. JUTC Managing Director, Paul Abrahams, says the latest attack happened Sunday night in the Bull Bay area of St Andrew. Abrahams said three stones were thrown into the windshield and side and rear windows of one of the company’s buses. See full story on The Gleaner’s website.

5. Fisherman escapes torched house

A fisherman is now homeless after his house was set ablaze by a group of attackers early this morning. Reports are that shortly after midnight the fisherman was sleeping in his house in Savanna, Hayes in Clarendon when he was awoken by strange sounds from outside. See full story on The Gleaner’s website.

6. More women gaining employment – STATIN

The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) says more Jamaican women are gaining employment. STATIN says the number of women employed since April this year has grown by 25,000. This number is more than double the 10,700 recorded for men over the same period. See full story on The Gleaner’s website.
