30 Days to Inspiration (#26: Be Patient)

March is celebrated as Spiritual Wellness Month. It is a time to reflect on the values, ethics and morals that add value and give meaning to your life. Here at diGJamaica, we’re going on a quest for 30 days of inspiration: extracting the common principles from different religions and systems of belief that help their followers to find inner peace, purpose and direction. Each day for the month of March, we will be sharing another principle with you. Join us as we embark on this journey to spiritual wellness.

What we’ve covered so far:

Be Patient

Good things take time. Waiting is part of life. No doubt, you have encountered and will again encounter situations that require you to wait for something you really want. Patience, while necessary, is not the easiest quality to develop. It requires a calm attitude in the face of delays, challenges, setbacks, and unexpected hiccups.

What fuels patience? For many, it is knowing that a bad attitude does not change the reality of what you are going through. Another truth? Impatience does you no good, because worry and angst fix nothing. Neither do complaining, getting angry or antsy or depressed or overwhelmed. Life will continue to present you with many difficult moments. One of the secrets to overcoming these is to endure with patience.

When things don’t work out the way you want them to, be patient.

When life throws you unexpected curve balls and you find yourself in a sea of challenges, stay calm and be patient.

When you have done all you can and have been waiting for a really long time, be patient.

When you feel trapped and like you have no alternatives or way out, be patient.

Why? Because nothing – no situation at all – lasts forever. It will pass. And you’ll be glad to look back and know that you didn’t give in to the temptation to go crazy, get flustered, get angry, fall into anxiety, or distress. You’ll be happy you made the wise decision to wait it out with an attitude of peace, hope and confidence.

Just be patient. The tide will turn soon.
