30 Days of Inspiration (#10: Cover Your Eyes)

March is celebrated as Spiritual Wellness Month. It is a time to reflect on the values, ethics and morals that add value and give meaning to your life. Here at diGJamaica, we’re going on a quest for 30 days of inspiration: extracting the common principles from different religions and systems of belief that help their followers to find inner peace, purpose and direction. Each day for the month of March, we will be sharing another principle with you. Join us as we embark on this journey to spiritual wellness.

What we’ve covered so far:

  1. Breathe
  2. Pray/Meditate
  3. Forgive
  4. Exercise
  5. Seek Peace
  6. Live in Love
  7. Practise Generosity
  8. Practise Gratitude
  9. Watch Your Words

Cover Your Eyes

“Guard well the avenues of the soul,” advises Ellen G. White, “avoid reading, seeing, or hearing that which will suggest impure thoughts.” She explains that the things we read and see feed our souls with either good or bad messages. So, what are your reading? What messages are you picking up from the things you consume with your eyes? What kind of programmes are you watching, and what is that doing FOR you and TO you?

Scientists have told us for many years now that desensitisation is a gradual process that occurs when we are continually exposed to graphic images. We lose our capacity to empathise, and to feel shock or horror at cruelty and violence if we are constantly consuming images of cruelty and violence. This robs us of the healthy emotions that should fuel healthy responses and behaviours to the people around us. How can we counteract this? By being more deliberate and selective about what we watch and read.

Engage your eyes in a different way today. Read uplifting, positive, encouraging, educational materials. Watch programmes of a similar ilk. Feed your eyes with positivity and light, so that your soul and spirit can flourish.
