Economy Update: Inflation May 2014

The latest information for the Consumer Price Index, as published by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica shows a 1% inflation rate for May 2014 relative to the index for April 2014. The calendar-year-to-date inflation was 2.2% and point-to-point inflation was 8%.

Inflation for the month was primarily driven by a 0.7% upward movement in the index for the division ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ and an advance of 3.6% in the index for the division ’Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and other Fuels’.
