There has been much talk about the removal of the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II as Jamaican Head of State this year. The views have ranged from out-right disagreement with the separation to acceptance of a new political order. See Should Jamaica Keep The Queen? That being said, what do you know about Queen Elizabeth II?
Here are some facts about Queen Elizabeth II
- The elder daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, she was born in 1926 and became Queen at the age of 25 and is mother to four children, grandmother to eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
- Home Schooled with her sister, Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth II studied constitutional history and law and religion with the Archbishop of Canterbury
- Queen Elizabeth II was married in 1947 to Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in a simple ceremony.
- She is a lover of animals and is an owner and breeder of thoroughbreds and her Labradors. She also loves Scottish country dancing.
The Queen has over 600 patronages and charities. These includes entities from the areas of the charity and voluntary sector, from opportunities for young people, to preservation of wildlife and the environment.
