Chart Of The Week: Up, Up And Away – The Sliding Jamaican Dollar

Sunday’s Chart of the Week should also be the Chart of the Year! The Chart shows the change in US$ exchange rate from 31 December 2009 to 31 December 2012.  The last portion of the chart is 2012 (click on the chart to link to the motion chart to see 2012 in action!).

The US$ selling rate started Jan. 1, 2012 at J$86.60 for US$1. It ended the year at J$92.98 for US$1, after crossing the $93 barrier on December 27 and 28.

This was a depreciation of J$6.38 or 7.4%, the biggest annual change since 2009, when the J$ devalued by 11%.

How do you think the J$ will fare in 2013? Revalue or Devalue? By how much?
